The review

The Hotel Nantucket is cursed. Well, that’s what the rumors say at least. But when a billionaire in London buys it up with plans to renovate, Lizbet jumps at the opportunity to run it. She needs out of her current situation (cheating ex, floundering restaurant and bar) so desperately she’s willing to take on the lofty goals of her new boss. He wants to impress two women with the hotel: a mysterious love interest and a somehow even more mysterious influencer.

Shelly Carpenter — a pseudonym — goes live with a hotel review once a month, and hoteliers around the country wait to see if they get a five-key review, which Shelby, or whoever she actually is, has never given out.

The book follows the full cast of characters at the hotel — their workplace competitions, the budding romances, the general shenanigans of a hotel, and even a ghost who shines light on the hotel’s history.

Elin Hildebrand is an iconic beach read craftswoman. I adore her writing style — which bounces from perspectives so that there’s no true main character — and the way she just adores Nantucket. This book has a huge guide with recommendations for the island, so now I need to go!

I listened to this book in part on audio and it’s a very solid narration by Erin Bennett, who seems to read most of Hildebrand’s books!
