The True Love Experiment (Review)

The quirky, cool girl who’s finally hit a rut can get the guy — especially if forced to do so on live television.

The review

Felicity Chen is a very popular romance author — she’s also Fizzy, a complete and hilarious main character herself. She’s in her late 30s and finally finally thinking about more than just her next lay. She loves her life, her found family, her job, but she’s hit a wall — both sexually and professionally — when a man approaches her with an idea.

Connor Prince III — as British as the name suggests — is a bleeding heart documentary maker but his company has tasked him with a big job (and a budget to match): a reality dating show. He doesn’t give two figs for romance books, but his ex-wife does and an idea sparks for him. What if he can get the most beloved romance author on the show as the lead? Her fans are the perfect demographic and what’s better than a build in audience?

An unlikely duo, Fizzy and Connor hit it off and become fast friends, realizing how intertangled their lives happen to be at the moment. But can the two of them (in spite of their growing feelings for each other) keep it professional and friendly with their careers on the line? Turns out, not so much.

I loved the Soulmate Equation — in large part because of Fizzy, the hilarious best friend. I’m so glad she gets her chance to shine in The True Love Experiment. The book has such good stuff — romance authors writing a romance author main character (very meta), friends to lovers, no miscommunications, reality tv BTS, and found family.

The audio of this book is also fabulous (thanks Simon Audio and and Gallery Books for the audio and physical copies for review). I love both narrators who totally brought the book to live for me. I read this book cover to cover in one day! Super short chapters made for fantastic poolside binge reading!
