Nostalgic for the Britney/Justin era of pop culture, I’m so mad this book (about a reunion special of a show where high schoolers sing and dance) is a work of fiction. I WANT TO SEE THE DAYDREAMS FR FR!

The review
It’s 2004, and Kat is starring as the mean girl on a teen show about high schoolers whose band gets discovered at a school talent show. The fictional band and the hit show blow up in parallel, but the fame and (mis)fortune doesn’t last long. Flash forward over a decade, the four cast members are reunited for a one-night-only TV special. Kat, now a badass lawyer, is going to have to face her past to move forward. Turns out, her and her former friends have a lot of secrets to catch up on.
Expectations were HIGH for this one, and Laura Hankin again delivered. Writing this review is so weird for me because I LOVED the book — might be my fave of her three now!! But I don’t have like… much to say other than what a fun and entertaining ride that felt too familiar to be fiction?!
I kept trying to put a finger on why it felt that way — you’ve got teen TV pop stars a la Hannah Montana. It’s a full cast with romance between the leads — very High School Musical!! But the era is WAY more Justin and Britney. Summer, the gorgeous, virginal, blonde lead has a whole post-show meltdown that’s very Miss Spears.
It’s dramatic. It’s nostalgic. It’s endlessly entertaining. It’s very millennial. And it’s a must read! Pre-order it for May 2!
