For my girlies who love all things Bridgerton, Jane Austen, and strong female characters — this one’s for you!

The review
Kitty Talbot has just a matter of weeks to prove to the debtors she’s good for her money. In the 1800s, that means one thing: She needs a husband — a rich one — ASAP. Her parents recently passed and she’s got three younger sisters to save from ruin and homelessness. She heads to London for the season to hunt for a fortune. She’s witty, ruthlessly competitive, and charming — but Lord Radcliffe sees right through her. It seems, Kitty realizes, this was going to be harder than she thought.
Wow what a cutie this one was. I hadn’t seen this book at all until Taylor Jenkins Reid said something about it somewhere — I think her newsletter! When TJR recs a book, I take note. She posted about Black Cake before it came out and I didn’t take her advice until so much later!
Anyways, this book is so well written. It gives you the setting and time period of a Jane Austen novel, without making you feel completely illiterate after taking 10 minutes to read one page. (Seriously, is this just me?!) I loved Kitty. I loved Radcliffe. It was a chef’s kiss story! It does kind of feel a bit repetitive (Kitty schemes, plans are foiled, repeat) and there are A LOT of characters. I recommend taking it slow and, while I loved the audiobook narration SO much, it might not be the best format just with all the moving parts.
