The Lions of Fifth Avenue (Review)

TFW you read a book you’ve had forever and IT IS AMAZING 😻 (also hi to my adorable library — it’s no New York Public Library but it’s pretty swell!)

🦁THE LIONS OF FIFTH AVENUE by Fiona Davis🦁

1913 — Laura Lyons is a budding journalist and mom of two who just moved into the brand new New York Public Library because her husband just got the job of running it. Juggling her classes at Columbia and raising her kiddos, she gets swept up in a secret feminist group that broadens her horizons and challenges her ways of thinking. But priceless books start to go missing and the thefts threaten her family’s structure.

1993 — New York Public Library curator Sadie Donovan feels like she can’t live up to the legacy her grandmother Laura Lyons left her, so she doesn’t mention that familial relation to anyone. However, when items start to go missing in a collection she’s working on, history feels like it’s beginning to repeat itself and the truth is coming to light at the worst possible time for Sadie career wise.

Gosh, Fiona Davis can do no wrong. Why did I wait so long to read this one!! Ah! Mad at past Nat, because this was one of the best historical fictions I’ve read all year. As a journalist, I loved Laura’s timeline and how before-her-time she truly was. I also really loved ambitious Sadie’s story too. Something I’ve noticed Fiona Davis she kind of makes New York buildings characters themselves in her books! They aren’t just the setting — they are as essential to the novel as the protagonists.
