Malibu Rising (Review)

I’ve never wanted to jump into the pages of a novel more.

The vibe

Book / Dress / Shoes / Necklace / Cuff / Bag / Earrings

Get ready for the party at the Rivas’s house! It’s a be and be seen scene in this ’80s book.

The review

✨MALIBU RISING by Taylor Jenkins Reid ✨

There were no official invites to Nina Riva’s end of summer party… if you knew the address, you were invited.💃🏼

One night. Four siblings. Their lives will never be the same.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

〰️ It’s winding but so well done. The main storyline is the day of the party, but the first half of the book interweaves in June and Mick Riva’s love story. The second half splices in side stories of the party attendees. I think in any other book, these things would have distracted me.. but I absolutely loved how the other characters brought the party to life.

🌊 It’s atmospheric. Literally everything from the Rivas’ childhood home and Nina’s cliff side mansion to the greasy family restaurant and salty sea air completely oozed from the pages. Also, it’s set in the ‘80s, which I loved!

😍 The characters are beautiful. Nina and June will forever live in my heart and the parallels between mother and daughter were heartbreaking and beautiful.

🙊I was so emotionally invested. I had moments where I would audibly gasp when reading — I’d just get so lost in the chapter only for it to end on a cliffhanger. I’d get chills reading what I think is TJR’s best writing to date.

💭 Fave quote: “Just because it is in Malibu’s nature to burn, so was it in one particular person’s nature to set fire and walk away.”
