Outlawed (Review)

“In the year of our Lord 1894, I became an outlaw.”

🤠OUTLAWED by Anna North 🤠

📝 Brief synopsis: Ada, like any 17-year-old girl living in her town at the time, has just gotten married and is tasked with producing babies. And if she can’t do it in a timely manner, also like any newlywed at the time, she’s assumed to be a witch cursed and cursing barrenness in others as well. Though she loves her sisters and her mom, the town’s midwife — and Ada was training with her, she’s forced leave town and start an unexpected adventure.

💭 My thoughts: Billed as a feminist western, Outlawed reimagines the Hole In The Wall Gang as a group of barren female outlaws. It was SO creative and so well written — I buddy read this with a friend — and the entire time we were just like “omg so good.” (I know, really descriptive but it’s beyond my vocabulary to define how awesome this book is!)

🚫 CW: Some gory parts, discrimination and violence against LGBTQ, and parts might be hard to read for anyone who’s struggled to conceive.
